LEVEL ONE PATIENTS
Harmless patients. Most patients deemed as being Level One are suffering from phobias or hallucinations, perhaps believing they see dead people or other strange abnormalities. They do not cause any harm to themselves or their peers, and thus have the most reins at the asylum, free to come and go from their rooms and the rest of the asylum (with the exception of the basement, of course).
LEVEL TWO PATIENTS
Self-harming patients. Those that cut themselves or threaten suicide will be kept on the second level. They are deemed harmless to others, but have definite issues concerning themselves. Their rooms are kept under close surveillance to assure that none of them try to hurt themselves.
LEVEL THREE PATIENTS
Addictions. Both eating disorders and drug/alcohol abuse are considered addictions at the asylum. However, eating disorder patients are classified under 'disorder', whereas most other addicts (including sex addicts) are classed as 'addiction' patients. Some of these patients can get a little rowdy, but they're generally more focused on trying to feed their addiction than getting in the way of others. Their rooms are built for the detox and withdrawal stage, and are searched regularly for contraband.
LEVEL FOUR PATIENTS
Violent patients. Most patients committed to Markham Institute for violence are placed in this level, as the next level up is only for the extremes. These patients tend to throw punches and struggle with the guards, but would never actually attempt to maim/kill another human being. Their rooms are locked at night, but will be opened on request for a bathroom break.
LEVEL FIVE PATIENTS
By far the worst level, most patients are terrified of the Level Fives. Regardless of why they were deemed criminally or mentally insane, they've all been known to use weapons or extreme threats against their peers. Fifth level patients are usually kept under close watch by guards, all of them having a personal security guard... for the sake of others, not themselves. Their rooms are kept locked and bolted all night, with no exceptions. They get their own rooms, with no room mates. Please note that there are only ever TEN LEVEL FIVES AT ONE TIME. They're rare and very dangerous (:
